2 Ultimate Travel Essentials for Those With IBS
Traveling with IBS can be HARD.
Trust me, I’ve had my fair share of digestive issues. And when you’re on a plane or just in general have digestive issues on vacation, it can wreak havoc on your body and mind. We go on vacation to have FUN, not be sad because we may have to run to the bathroom in the middle of a nice dinner or feel like a balloon that’s about to burst 24/7.
So this one is for my guys and gals with IBS.
It’s no fun having to say no to the window seat because you know you’ll be running to the bathroom every 15 minutes. Throughout most of my life I never drank water before or during my flight because that would mean I would probably have to go to the bathroom. I basically just accepted the fact I was going to be dehydrated until I got to my destination. Oh how times have changed.
If you’ve been dealing with IBS for any amount of time I’m sure you’ve realized how dang important hydration is to your digestive tract.
These days I down a ton of water before, during, and after my flight in hopes of keeping things moving (this is especially important for those with IBS-C). In addition, I added a hydration factor which is the first travel essential I recommend for those with IBS:
LIQUID IV!
One of these packets is the same amount as drinking THREE water bottles. Talk about efficiency! AND it has electrolytes, so if you struggle with diarrhea, this is a great thing to have since it will replace the electrolytes lost in your stool.
P.S. if you’re traveling and know you’re going to drink alcohol at some point, it’s also a fantastic thing to drink either before bed or the day after. Your body is craving water and electrolytes after drinking!
You can also pop one in your water bottle during your flight for that extra hydration, it may even give you some energy if you want to stay awake for the duration of the flight!
I highly recommend you try them out! They have a ton of flavors to choose from. My favorite is the lemon-lime (yes I’m a huge lemon gal).
Now for the second travel essential for those with IBS.
The second item I want to share with you today is GoMacro’s protein bars. It took me quite a long time to find a low fodmap bar that was in a store close to where I live. Luckily, Target has them! You can also buy them on Amazon or GoMacro’s website. No dairy, no high fodmap foods, no gluten, AND they recently just got low fodmap certified! So they’re legit. We love to hear that.
And I’m serious when I tell you, they are absolutely delicious. Just like the Liquid IV, they have a ton of flavors to choose from. My favorite is the one seen below, peanut butter chocolate chip. ANDDDDDDDDDDD 25% off is rewarded to you if you use code kirthetraveler_ !!!!!!!!!!!!! Go crazy🤪
So there you have it! 2 items I always pack enough of when I go on trips. Sometimes I bring an extra of each just in case!
Let me know if you try these out! You’ll be sitting more comfortable than usual on your next flight😊
